14,000 Historical Field Names!

Environment Systems have led the project delivery team to capture and present over 14,000 historical field names in the Ardudwy region of Wales.

The project was launched in Harlech on 10th July by Lord Dafydd Ellis-Thomas, Presiding Officer for the National Assembly for Wales and the Assembly Member for Merionydd .

Environment Systems presented the work that had been delivered with associates from One Bright Space (website development), Geostudio 3D (historical landscape reconstruction) and SS Crome (landscape painting).  The historical fields have been captured and made accessible over the internet to the widest possible audience at http://www.adnabodardudwy.org.

Rhian Parry, the leader of the Adnabod Ardudwy – Knowing Ardudwy project, on behalf of the Merioneth Historical and Record Society said “This is an innovative development based on research.  Its purpose is to enable people to get to know Ardudwy better through history that is rooted in its ancient field and farm names.  We are in constant danger of losing what is a linguistic treasure trove every time people change names without realising their historical and cultural value.”

Press coverage in Wales has included radio and internet;
