Iain joined Environment Systems in March 2011 as a Remote Sensing and GIS Consultant. He is principally responsible for the technical aspects of Project URSULA (UAS Remote Sensing for Use in Land Applications), a 2 year research and development programme which will explore the potential for advanced remote sensing, using small unmanned aircraft, for use in land applications, primarily high input arable farming.
Iain will be responsible for developing image processing techniques and practices for the data captured using both multispectral and hyperspectral sensors. This will lead on to the profiling of subsequent commercial data products. Previously Iain was employed as a Post Doctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh where he led the development of the Savanna Ecosystems Map of Belize 2010 to support management and conservation of the savanna ecosystem at a national level: http://www.eeo.ed.ac.uk/sea-belize/savanna_map.html
Iain is an experienced researcher specialising in the use of remote sensing and GIS data technologies to support natural resource management and effective decision making. He has an MSc in GIS and was awarded a PhD in 2008, both from the University of Edinburgh.
