Nicki Turton
Environmental GIS Consultant
Nicki joined Environment Systems in February 2009 as an Environmental Analyst. She graduated in 2008 from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Earth Science. Since joining Environment Systems, Nicki has gained valuable knowledge of GIS platforms such as MapInfo and ArcGIS, database use and manipulation and a solid grounding in ecological reporting systems.
Nicki has worked on a variety of projects including:
Land Use / Cover Area frame statistical Survey (LUCAS) project, providing support to the field staff and quality management of data collected across the UK and Ireland as part of a Europe-wide land cover and land use survey (Eurostat).
Phase 2 of the North West Character Landscape Framework, bringing together ecological and geological data to inform the pre-existing terrestrial framework and mapping of the marine environment into discrete physical units and broader character areas (Natural England).
An inventory of freshwater and terrestrial BAP priority and Annex 1 Habitats analysing the availability and usefulness of current resources for habitat reporting across Scotland and developing methods for addressing gaps in the information (Scottish Natural Heritage).
Nicki hopes to expand her knowledge of image processing and manipulation for use within the natural environment and further her professional development by becoming a member of The Geological Society and the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM).
