GeoDATA 2009 - Sharing Spatial Data

GeoDATA is a highly successful one-day seminar series offering a unique chance to hear thought-provoking presentations on a wide range of issues facing users of geographic information.

Dr. Katie Medcalf, Environment Director, Environment Systems will be presenting ‘Does baseline + re-mapping = monitoring?’ 

Katie says, “The temptation to put two maps or images together from different dates, automatically pull out the difference and call it change can be overwhelming.  We will set out why in most cases this should be avoided.  Focussing on the natural environment, we will present examples of successful and unsuccessful monitoring; examples of how to establish underlying trends which are not real or significant but just seasonal or periodic differences; reasons why we need critical evaluation of our data; and finally opportunities and issues on handling the geography of change.”
