Natalie Small
Environmental Analyst
Natalie joined Environment Systems as an Environmental Analyst in January 2010 following the completion of an MSc in Environmental Conservation Management at Glamorgan University.
Since joining, Natalie has been involved with a variety of projects, which include:
Modelling Ecosystem Services & Future Scenarios for Spatial Planning - Led the data collation and GIS analysis for a pilot Ecosystem Goods and Services project. The project involved identifying the natural assets supplying the services and mapping the areas that (potentially) contribute to the provision of this service. She has applied significant expertise in vector and raster based GIS analysis using ArcGIS (including Spatial Analyst).
LANDMAP GIS Data Quality Assurance - Delivered GIS-based quality control of Wales-wide landscape data and included performing checks on topology, data integrity and completeness using Map Info Professional.
The Quantification of Areas of Vegetated and Bare Peat on Blanket Bog Habitats - Natalie was a part of the initial image preparation for the project and delivered elements of the georectification of both current and historical (1946 RAF) aerial photography. This has involved identification of ground control points in ‘featureless’ landscapes, combined with various statistical triangulation registration modules within software such as ERDAS Imagine.
Natalie is responsible for maintaining Environment Systems Environmental Management System (EMS) and actively supports the directors in ensuring the criteria set in the Green Dragon Environmental Standard are met. Recently, Environment Systems passed its external re-audit and has successfully kept our Green Dragon Level 2 award.
Natalie is a member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and is looking to progress to Associate membership level, whilst further developing her technical GIS and remote sensing skills, particularly in the processing of satellite and airborne earth observation data for environmental applications.
