PASTORAL Engagement Officer

Environment Systems is a market leading agricultural and environmental data consultancy based in the UK. In partnership with The Soil Association and The University of Edinburgh, we are leading Pasture Optimisation for Resilience and Livelihoods (PASTORAL), an Innovate UK funded project focused on productive pasture management for efficient livestock production.

The Role
You will be leading the coordination of a network of livestock farmers and managing their engagement with the project. This will include, but is not limited to, onboarding project farms, assisting with data collection on farms and development of a project communication strategy.

  • You are ‘tech-savvy’ with experience of working in agriculture or agricultural services.
  • You will draw on your communication and interpersonal skills, to deliver strong stakeholder management, ensuring the smooth co-ordination between the project and our network of farmers.
  • You will have a good agronomic understanding, and will use this to facilitate collection of accurate field data by stakeholders and project partners.

We will encourage you to develop skills in supporting project monitoring and evaluation, gathering data from partners and assisting with the development of co-creation workshops and knowledge exchange events.

The role is a fixed term contract until 30/09/2023, with the aim of extending it to join the team permanently as we grow our offer in the UK.

The post will be remotely based with hot desking available at Environment Systems (Aberystwyth and Harwell) and Soil Association (Edinburgh and Bristol). The role will require travel to meet network farmers and attend events, with on-farm activities mainly located in the South-West of England and Yorkshire. A full, clean UK driving license will be required. You are only eligible to apply for this position if you currently have a right to work in the UK.

Salary is £25,000 – £30,000 per annum on the basis of qualifications and experience, and will form part of a benefits package, including: pension contribution; 20 days’ annual leave allowance (plus bank holidays); paid sick leave, death in service benefit.

Ecologist – Bats

Permanent, full-time
£24,000 – £28,000 dependent on experience

We would like you to have some or all of the following:

  • NRW survey licence to disturb bats
  • NE Class Licence CL18 / Level 2 accepted, along with willingness to apply for NRW licence
  • A handling endorsement is desirable but not essential
  • Demonstrable experience of field ecology with specific expertise in bat surveying
  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in ecology, environmental management or related subject
  • Some project management skills for small-scale projects
  • Some experience of advising clients and other technical teams on bat ecology and relevant legislation
  • Be able to produce survey reports, method statements other documents to a high standard
  • Enthusiasm for ecology and the environment in Wales and the UK
  • Be located in the Aberystwyth or north Ceredigion area, or be willing to make the move to this beautiful area of the country (we can see the sea from our office!), and
  • A full driving licence and access to your own transport.

We are seeking a highly motivated mid-career ecologist who is looking to grow their track record, manage their own workload and be part of a small, close-knit team within a larger company. You will also be involved in other survey work such as habitat/Phase 1/NVC, great crested newt, birds, otter and water vole, dormouse and badger, as well as other environmental projects within the company.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the natural environment and sustainability, with good problem-solving skills to get the best for biodiversity.

At present, we offer support to work from home as well as providing hot-desk facilities in our Aberystwyth office, for those that would like to use them. Equipment will be provided to you to enable you to work from home, if required. We would like you to be located in the general area (or willing to relocate) due to the high amount of survey work here.

Front-end Developer

Environment Systems is a market leading agricultural and environmental data consultancy based in the UK with a global reach. We use evidence and insight to help governments and businesses better manage our environment and grow more food.

In 2015 we built the Environment Systems Satellite Data Services (https://data.envsys.co.uk/), a cloud-based engine for processing and analysing satellite imagery at scale and serving it up via API.

Environment Systems is looking for a front-end developer to join the software development team on a contract basis to work on our Data Services and other consultancy projects. We expect this contract to be on a framework basis, with a flexible but capped amount of work required each month.

Required:

* Responsive, modern, accessible front end design
* CSS + JS + HTML Templates with appropriate frameworks (bootstrap, angular, jquery, etc)
* Visual Mockups
* Mapping libraries (Leaflet.JS, OpenLayers)
* Sensitive to security and performance considerations

Nice to have:

* Python + Django Experience
* Docker skills
* GIS (GDAL, PostGis, GeoDjango)
* Single page apps + AJAX form submission with Django
* Linux command line
* AWS Familiarity
